Help make UnderOverflaten better

Hi everyone. As Odd has mentioned before, I’m starting some work to improve UnderOverflaten, by redesigning the way some things work, and by adding a few new features. This will require that we create a new “skin” for the site, and this is a brilliant opportunity to imprint the character of UnderOverflaten on the way the site looks. This is also where you come in: I want your help to identify the graphical identity of the new site.

In simple terms, I’d like to use the collective inspiration and opinion of UnderOverflaten to create the new site design. What I’d like to ask from you is to find a drawing, a pattern, a photo, or even another website which you think represents what the “look and feel” of the site should be. The simpler the image you can provide, the better — you don’t need any graphical design skills, although feel free to draw/photograph something. Then simply share the image on the new “2012 Design Forslag” forum by creating a new topic and placing the image address in it.

Obviously, discuss what suggestions you like/dislike in the forum. We’ll let the process go on for a while and see if a consensus starts to appear. I’ll then use the images that are most popular (or least controversial) as a basis for the “real” design of the site.

Here are a few examples of what would be good suggestions, and what they could mean in a final design:
